Gabriel Joaquim: Bad eating habits interfere with fertility

The doctor, better known as "Doctor Life", revealed that, in Angola, the problem affects more than eight million people, but that it can be treated using phytotherapy techniques, defined as the science that studies medicinal plants and their properties

How do you look at the situation of infertility in Angola?

Infertility in Angola is already a public health problem, and in 2017, at the time of the launch of my first book, entitled "The male and female infertility", through fructotherapy, I already called the attention of the Angolan Government to the that infertility was a public health problem. In 2018, when I launched the second book, "How to fight infertility through fructotherapy and nutrition", it came to give a greater impact to the fight against infertility. For the rest, 59,500 copies of the two books have already been sold, being one of the biggest sales of their kind in Angola, since 2019. This demand, if on the one hand worries me, also makes me happy, because, in the province of Benguela alone, 51 couples who lived with the problem of infertility managed to generate children, through the application of the formula in the book, both for males and females. Therefore, I became the namesake of 689 children, in various parts of the country.

How did the vocation for Natural Medicine come about?

My vocation to Naturopathy comes from my father, who was a veterinarian, graduated from the University of Coimbra, Portugal; while my mother was a traditional midwife, whose accomplishments encouraged me to choose medicine. We know that youth is the greatest wealth of a country. A country without youth can collapse at any moment, like a tree without roots. And for that, it is necessary that there be successive births, but the number of cases of infertility in Angola are worrying.

What are the numbers?

There is a recent study by the Angolan State that reports that more than three million people live with infertility, but a study that I have carried out since 2007 shows that more than eight million national citizens have infertility. Just to give you an idea, one in three Angolans has a relative who lives with this problem.

What is the scientific definition of infertility?

Infertility is the lack of procreation, whether in a man or a woman, which can lead the person concerned to emotional and psychological exhaustion, to the point of corrupting the relationship with friends and family, leading the spouses to think that others have it easier. in achieving paternity or maternity. Usually the couple who live in these conditions tend to think that the world around them is a fertile place, from which they were excluded, a fact that can lead people to move away from certain leisure events where there are pregnant women and children. Marital infertility is defined as the absence of pregnancy after four months of regular sexual intercourse without the use of contraceptive methods. It is important to note that infertility is different from impossibility. That is the difficulty of getting pregnant, which can happen due to several factors, ranging from the lack of sufficient production of sperm or the fact that the woman is in early menopause, that is, not having eggs in the ovaries or if both fallopian tubes are blocked, creating difficulties for sperm to enter.

What are the main causes of infertility?

It is necessary to awaken people to know that what causes infertility on the male side is mostly bad eating habits. We must not confuse eating with eating. Today, most citizens are adopting western habits, preferring to eat foods already made industrially, with various preservatives and chemical additives, instead of those produced naturally. The swallowing of these foods causes the production of a small amount of sperm in the man, giving rise to the creation of a lot of semen that causes premature ejaculation and loss of erection. The weak liquid that the man deposits in the partner soils her uterus, causing constant bladder pain. Young Angolans in the reproductive phase should opt for the consumption of cassava, avocado, watermelon, including its white part, soy tea, corn and other natural foods, to avoid squeezing that causes the absence of chromosomes, or sperm in men, losing thus the ability to impregnate your partner.

What are the advantages of consuming natural foods such as cassava?

Cassava, for example, is a good tuber for nutrient recovery, as well as increasing milk for breastfeeding, as well as stimulating sperm production. The hamburger and pizza have excess saturated fats, sodium and sugar. Sausages such as ham, bologna, sausages and salami also contain fats that, when they exceed 1.5 percent, per 100 grams of food, increase the risk of overweight and can cause cardiovascular disease and stroke. Sausages also have a large amount of nitrate which, when consumed in excess, increases the risk of cancer, in addition to accumulating sodium that causes an increase in cardiac pressure. Men are even the main responsible for the emergence of infertility at home, as they are the ones who have the ability to make women pregnant. The lack of cooperation of men in adhering to fertility consultations, especially if in previous relationships (relationships) a woman got pregnant. He even thinks that he will never have infertility problems again, whereas in the previous phase he was eating well, but that, unfortunately, this year, he drinks a lot of alcohol, he started to smoke more, creating a climate of stress, which are other factors for the emergence of infertility. On the part of women, I draw attention to the non-use of contraceptives without the guidance of doctors, without knowing the origin and real effects of the medication, thus creating conditions for intoxication of the uterus.

How should we be sure whether or not foods are conducive to strengthening the reproductive system?

Foods are divided into four genera, which are biogenic, bioactive, biostatic and biocides. Biogenics are the ones that generate life and are the ideal basis of our food, they give vital force and energy to the body. Bioactives are those provided by nature spontaneously, as is the case with maboque, plum, jinguinga, mucua and others. In relation to biogenics and bioactives, they are live foods, destined by nature to ensure the life and well-being of human beings, whose consumption brings vitality at any age. Bio-statics are those that diminish life, that vital energy has been diminished by time. Its consumption is the result of modern habits and its consumption guarantees the minimum functioning of our body, causes premature aging of cells, because it does not provide the living substances necessary for regeneration. Biocides, on the other hand, are those that have already been altered with chemical substances, such as frozen chicken and sausages.

What should be the behavior of women who still do not want to have children, but are sexually active?

They should go to a maternity hospital and ask for the help of a specialist in reproductive health who will advise them on the use of drugs that prevent pregnancy, without any future consequences. Excessive consumption of processed meats, such as chorizo, sausages and hamburgers, can cause the appearance of cysts on the ovaries. I had the opportunity to do a scientific research work on infertility in rural areas of the provinces of Uíge, Bié, Huambo, Huíla and Namibe and I realized that in a community with 500 people, only one is faced with the problem of lack of birth.

And what conclusion did you come to?

Well… the conclusion I came to is that the way of life of local women, especially the way they feed themselves, is at the base of reproduction facilities. Unlike women and men in large cities such as Luanda, who feed mainly on industrialized products, in addition to a generalized sedentary lifestyle, contrary to what happens in rural communities, where people have a more natural way of life.

What are the main diseases that affect the male and female reproductive system?

The main diseases that contribute to infertility in men are essentially syphilis, gonorrhea, varicocele, inflammation, atrophy and prostate cancer, spermia, premature ejaculation, urinary tract infection, kidney failure and hernia. In women, the main reasons are essentially ovarian cysts, myoma, pelvic inflammation, open cervix, amenorrhea, vaginal itching, syphilis with signs of pimples and inflammation of the labia majora, presence of bleeding in the urine, cancer and lesions of the uterus. , irregular menstruation, which can lead to no eggs in the ovaries or blockage of the tubes.
